Sinking

"Sinking" has been an ongoing project that began in 2012 with a series of photographs and developed into time-based video work. The purpose is to document and archive a question in visual form and test its relevance and meaning through like moments over time. There is a performative nature by which I record these everyday occurrences and changes that take place. While thematically these are about repetition, the performative nature is that of me in a routine. My creative work has almost always had a significant focus on the burden of repetition and monotony, both in a literal sense and also conceptually. While the sinks represent domesticity, they could be substituted with other repetitive acts and activities and aim to question intent, equity, status quo thinking and of course gender roles. This work also plays on my interest in examining manipulation and perpetuation.
